Accounts Receivable Supervisor

The Role:

The Accounts Receivable Supervisor leads a team of three staff members and ensures the successful operation of the AR department with a focus on the collection of overdue accounts and efficient processing of daily deposits. This role is responsible for monitoring accounts receivable balances, directly contacting clients for payments, processing daily receipts and preparing reconciliations. 

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and capable of handling complex requests while providing exceptional customer service to both external clients and internal teams at Bennett Jones.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinate and allocate duties to team members to ensure prompt posting of receipts and timely follow up on overdue accounts.
  • Completing daily deposits and entry into the accounting system.
  • Using electronic remote cheque depositing software for firm deposits.
  • Reconciling unallocated reports and balancing daily deposits.
  • Processing credit card payments.
  • Issuing monthly accounts receivable reminder statements to clients and follow up on outstanding balances.
  • Identify, research, and resolve discrepancies related to invoice payments or e-billing submissions.
  • Keep accurate records of all collection activities.
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with internal employees and external clients.
  • Use professional communication style to establish positive relationships with internal and external clients.
  • Document and update existing processes while continually evaluating them for efficiency improvements.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the manager.
  • Some overtime may be required during peak periods.

Qualifications:

The successful candidate will comply with all established policies and procedures and exhibit the following attributes:

  • Minimum of 5 years of proven success in a supervisory or team lead role within Accounts Receivable or a similar financial function.
  • Experience in multicurrency AR and collections processing or related accounting knowledge.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to accurately reconcile financial transactions.
  • Experience in a legal work environment or other professional services firms is considered an asset.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, accounting systems, and e-billing platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills to engage with internal teams and external clients.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze financial data and resolve discrepancies.
  • A proactive, solution-oriented approach to process improvement.
  • Demonstrated customer service skills, with the ability to interact effectively with a diverse range of people and personalities.
