ESG 2023: A Chambers Global Practice Guide Publication

November 27, 2023

Written By Sharon Singh, Radha Curpen, Sarah Gilbert, John Piasta and Bosa Kosoric

Sharon Singh, Radha Curpen, Sarah Gilbert, John Piasta and Bosa Kosoric offer an evaluation on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) in Canada in Chambers' ESG 2023 Practice Guide for Canada. This practice guide offers valuable insight to the modern ESG environment, supply chain transparency, responsible business conduct, net zero emissions and zero waste, a right to a clean environment, climate-related disclosures, corporate governance diversity disclosures, UN declaration on the rights on Indigenous peoples and rigorous reporting.

The legal landscape for ESG matters is evolving and becoming more interconnected. Various regulatory initiatives are converging to address the interdependency between these ESG pillars. This interconnectedness has been underscored by extreme climate events like wildfires, flooding and high temperatures. Governments are responding by allocating budgets and launching initiatives related to climate mitigation, food security, Indigenous knowledge-informed land and water use planning, cumulative impacts assessment, mandatory ESG disclosure requirements and infrastructure resilience.
