Adam Williams is a strategic litigator with a focus on complex commercial, constitutional, administrative and regulatory disputes. He represents clients on matters across a range of industries, before trial and appellate courts across Canada, including the Supreme Court of Canada.

Known for his thoughtful approach and practical judgment, Adam helps clients navigate litigation risks with clear, realistic advice. He is especially sought after for matters involving constitutional and public law challenges, often with novel legal dimensions. Clients describe him as strategic and responsive, providing rigorous legal analysis with a focus on business and policy outcomes.

Adam’s experience includes proceedings before all levels of court in Alberta, British Columbia and Saskatchewan, and before the Supreme Court of Canada. He played a key role in the firm’s recent successes in Reference re Impact Assessment Act, Dow Chemical Canada ULC v. NOVA Chemicals Corporation and Petrowest v. Peace River Hydro Partners—cases that reshaped Canadian law on federal jurisdiction, contractual interpretation and the intersection of arbitration and insolvency.   Adam also litigates matters involving the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Adam contributes regularly to thought leadership. He has published for the Canadian Energy Law Foundation, Alberta Law Review, National Insolvency Review and Annual Review of Insolvency Law.

Before joining Bennett Jones, Adam served as a clerk at the Alberta Court of Appeal.
