Caroline Poirier has more than 20 years of experience advising clients on information technology, data protection, and privacy matters, including in the e-health and telecommunication sectors. Her practice spans the entire lifecycle of technology projects, from structuring, drafting, and negotiating outsourcing, licensing, cloud computing and procurement agreements to addressing technology-related issues in mergers and acquisitions.

She frequently advises on privacy and data protection obligations under Canadian federal and provincial laws, including Quebec’s private sector privacy legislation. Her work includes developing compliance programs, advising on cross-border data transfers, and assisting organizations in implementing governance frameworks for the responsible collection, use and disclosure of personal information.

Caroline also counsels clients on the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies, including integration into business operations, risk assessment and alignment with evolving legal and ethical standards. Her work in this area extends to drafting and implementing internal AI use policies and advising on best practices for responsible deployment.

Caroline's clients include Canadian and multinational enterprises, financial institutions, and both technology suppliers and customers at various stages of growth, from start-ups to established global providers. She also regularly advises local and international clients on compliance with Quebec’s Charter of the French Language, particularly in relation to contracts, consumer-facing materials privacy and product labelling.

Previously, Caroline served as vice-president, Legal Affairs at TELUS where she led a team of legal professionals providing day-to-day commercial and regulatory legal support to TELUS Health, TELUS Agriculture and TELUS Business Solutions and advising the leadership team on a wide range of legal and regulatory issues, including privacy and cybersecurity risks across multiple lines of business.
