Shanza ArifLawyer T: 403.298.3230 / E: arifs@bennettjones.com Calgary Shanza maintains a general litigation practice and has assisted with matters before the Court of King's Bench of Alberta, the Court of Appeal of Alberta and the Alberta Utilities Commission. During law school, Shanza served on the editorial board of the Alberta Law Review, worked as a Writing Fellow for the first-year Legal Research and Writing course and was a research assistant in the areas of health and energy law. She also completed a year-long internship with the Court of Appeal of Alberta. Shanza was on the Dean's List throughout law school and received numerous awards and accolades, including the Aloneissi-Gower Pro Bono Community Service Award, the Lieberman Prize in Law and Medicine, the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law Scholarship, the Catherine J. Boggs Scholarship for excellence in natural resources law and the Louise McKinney Scholarship for ranking in the top 1.5% of her class. Shanza was heavily involved with the University of Alberta Faculty of Law's moot program, winning the first-year Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin Moot, placing fourth at the Gale Cup where she also received the second-place factum prize and securing third place at the Wilson Cup. Upon graduation, she was awarded the Mandy MacLeod Prize for Excellence in Mooting, recognizing the graduating student with the most significant contributions to the moot program. Shanza previously summered with the firm, worked in-house with the legal department of one of Canada's largest construction companies and clerked with the Court of King's Bench of Alberta before returning to the firm to complete her articles. |
